Magallanes Census Statistics, 1906
British Nationals

At the start of the 20th century, Magallanes was still at any early stage of development (albeit, the population was rising rapidly). Foreign nationals, drawn by new economic opportunities, made up a large part of the community. Compared to the Chilean residents, there were proportionately more British unmarried males: these were mostly of working age, and principally employed in sheep ranching.
