Treachery in the waters of Tierra del Fuego
James Docherty, shipowner, declares that his schooner Ethel D, commander Captain Charles Sherbold, was boarded by the crew of the US schooner Carrier Dove and robbed of its cargo while at Charles III Island [western sector of the Magellan Straits]. Said captain first sent his crew ashore, and subsequently fled in the other vessel. JD claims losses of £500 plus $2,300 (pesos). ... Como armador de la Goleta Nacional "Ethel D" mandó la espresada embarcación al mando del capitán Charles Sherbold a las Islas Australes cargada con mercaderías generales y provisiones, para venderlas al mejor precio posible. El espresado capitán, aprovechando la ausencia de abordo de la tripulación que por su orden se encontraba en tierra en la isla Carlos Tercero, trasbordó a la Goleta Norte Americana "Carrier Dove" todo el cargamento con el personal de esta última y se fugó con ella. El valor de las mercaderías asciende a la suma de quinientas libras esterlinas, las provisiones en mil ochocientos pesos y los avances de la dotación del buque a quinientos pesos. En consecuencia viene en protestar ante quien corresponda del robo de que ha sido objeto reservándose el exigir la indemnización de perjuicios ...

James Docherty trades in the the mining rights of gold-bearing sands located at the following locations in Tierra del Fuego: Río Verde, Río Paravich, Chorrillo Ogaz, Río Horqueta and Río Oscar.
